Apologize? What about all the good the PLP did for Bermudians?

“The sooner Mr. Burt and his colleagues acknowledge their record, the sooner Bermuda’s Parliament will have credible opposition on the economy. It can start with an apology.”

Thad Hollis  chairman  One Bermuda Alliance.

So the OBA says the PLP must apologize. Usually, apologies are best met with reversals of actions already taken. So today let’s say sorry and dismantle what the  PLP did while in power.

Let’s take away housing for the seniors at Sylvia Richardson  housing in St George’s and at Rockaway. Seniors can just go back down to the hospital extended care unit. Then we can take away that brand new hospital  — who needs modern medical care?

While we are at it, take away free car licensing for seniors. Oops — the OBA is doing that. Take away the free land tax on their properties and reinstate the death tax of 33%. The banks just love it when you have to borrow money to pay the government for a house you just inherited.

Let us take away Loughlands, Anchorage View, Perimeter Lane, Butterfield Lane and Harbourview Village housing units. Those 200 Bermudian families can just go right back to renting over-priced apartments. Only certain Bermudians deserve to own their own home, correct Mr Hollis?

Now let’s take away Heritage Wharf because quite frankly who needs 500,000 tourists coming to Bermuda via mega cruise ships or $30,000,000 plus a year in revenues. We can just rely on the Newport to Bermuda crowd every other year. 500,000 tourists most likely won’t be spending money on taxis, restaurants and or livery cycles or linen. So yes, let’s take away Heritage Wharf and tell those large cruise ships we are not in the cruise business anymore.

Ah, babies. Now who told those Bermudian women to get pregnant and not be able to afford $1,000 per month for day care? Heck, Bermudian kids are not as valuable as foreign kids. So delete day care allowance.

Let’s go back to the days when long lines stood outside of the TCD building and people spent days on end getting their cars examined and licensed. Who needs an efficient operation that gets you in and out within 30 minutes? Bermudians always need an excuse to be away from work all day; funerals, sick kids, dentist appointments, TCD. Who needs better emission standards from our cars, bikes and trucks? Not us — Bermudians just love pollution in their lungs.

Get to the heart of the matter. Let’s do as Bob Richards states, in order to balance the budget. Fire half of the civil service. As a man thinketh, so is he. Last year, Mr. Richards stated the “Civil service is bloated and a strain on the taxpayers.” This year he realizes it will be his political demise to continue that course of conversation. But for argument’s sake, let’s take away all the increases in police, fire and health care. Let’s take away the teachers. Let’s do away with the prison officers, cut out the workers of Public Works  and tell  the entire  lazy civil service to play musical chairs for a week and whoever is left on Monday morning has a job.

Knock down Berkeley Institute because quite frankly the Berkeley has produced too many uppity Bermudians to begin with. Just send all the high school students to CedarBridge as Gerald Simons had originally planned. I mean, 1,200 teenagers in one spot won’t create a problem now, will it?

Take away those fast ferries. Those people after Hurricane Fabian should have just got into their rowboats and gone to work. The people driving from west can just sit in traffic for two hours per day.

There are a host of other things the PLP has put in place,that we could take away;

Building ties with Quatar; X-ray machine at the docks; Jet Blue; visa-free travel throughout Europe; new bus terminal; traffic lights at Collector’s Hill; free bus fare for all schoolchildren;  Mirrors Programme; National Heroes; Sports Hall of Fame; Economic Empowerment Zones; one-man, one-vote; revised constituency boundaries; college scholarships; rise in home ownership. And most importantly, the self pride of the largest segment of the island.

Yes Sir, Mr Hollis, we will apologize for doing all these things which cost money, yet improved the quality of life of all residents of Bermuda. We will apologize, just after you explain, if the PLP did such a bad job, why do so many guest workers wish to stay here indefinitely  without term limits?
