Tug to help get wharf ready

It’s all about Heritage Wharf again this week.

The Oleander brought in a huge haul of construction material on Monday, including four containers and eleven trailer loads of piping and metalwork that will be used to renovate the berth.

While the tug, Stephanie Dann, and her barge are due to arrive this morning from the East Coast of the United States to provide assistance during the project.

The tug, which was built in 1978 in Louisiana, is powered by two Caterpillar D398 TA diesel engines.

The barge is fitted with cranes so that it can load and unload cargo.

It will remain in Bermuda for the duration of the Heritage Wharf project, while Stephanie Dann will return to the US.

The barge will be used to ferry construction material from Morgan’s Point, where much of it is being stored, to Dockyard.

This tug and barge is the second to be currently stationed in Bermuda.

The first, Mega Motti, initially arrived on the island on February 15 and set off for Nova Scotia on February 23.

But she was slammed by high winds and rolling seas and forced to return to Bermuda.

The twin team rumbled back into Dockyard last Wednesday nursing minor structural damage.

And with more bad weather forecast over the next few days she is not expected to set sail until the weekend at the earliest.

Finally, for this week, the Bermuda Islander is expected into the capital on Friday morning.

She will leave the next day as she continues to try and get back on her Thursday morning schedule.
