Jomar Wilkinson has challenged his players to put the pride back into Dandy Town in their remaining five Digicel Premier Division games.

The reigning champions currently sit six points off league leaders Cougars following the teams’ 1-1 draw at the weekend.

And while the performance pleased coach Wilkinson, he believes his team have not been “deserving champions” for much of this campaign.

Personnel have changed but the crux of the problem for last season’s double winners, he says, is complacency.

He said: “First of all we were missing three players, George Dyer, Jamal Swan and Raymond Beach, who were the spine of our team. Raymond Beach came back  recently to help us but it’s a different team.

“But to be honest, I don’t think the players appreciated the work we put into last year to achieve what we did. I think some complacency set in.

“You get out what you put in. So far we haven’t been deserving of being champions.”

Wilkinson will be hoping this brutally-honest assessment sparks a rare consistent run of results between now and the end of the season.

With a FA Cup first round replay against Flanagan’s Onions this weekend and the title race far from over, he knows there is still much to play for.

“Our destiny is out of hands,” said Wilkinson. “But if we keep playing well we can keep the pressure on.

“We have a responsibility playing for Dandy Town and to the club, and we have  to show that in our remaining games.

“This season we haven’t put together three successive wins so anything can happen.

“The table is very tight and if we can get a win and the teams above us lose it can change dramatically.

“It’s not over. We are just going to push on with the remaining games.

“We’ve got Flanagan’s, Robin Hood and Wolves in the league run-in.

“In the second half of the season it’s more difficult to get the three points from these sides because teams are fighting relegation but they are definitely games we think we can get something from.”
