Verneil Richardson, 21, has been named as the victim of this morning’s gruesome stabbing.

Mr Richardson, of Hamilton Parish, was murdered outside of Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club after an altercation.

A  man, Adam King, is in police custody. Speaking at a press conference at the scene of the murder, Superintendent James Howard said: “Mr Richardson was here at the property of Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club where a function was being held.

“He was in an altercation where he was stabbed. Medical personnel attended but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

“I would encourage persons with information to make contact with the detectives of the Serious Crime Unit.
“Anyone who saw Mr Richardson in the last 24 hours should also contact the police.”

Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro said a full investigation is under way into the death of Mr Richardson.

“We have processed the same and we are continuing to review evidence and CCTV footage that we have gathered.
“It’s being treated as a murder.”

He continued: “We recognise that members of the public were inconvenienced and we apologise for that but we you must understand that the integrity of a crime scene must come first.

“I also recognise that some of the people last night could very well have seen what occurred and could assist.”

Mr Pedro wouldn’t comment on the number of times Mr Richardson had been stabbed. Asked if there was a party at the club, Mr Pedro said: “We don’t believe there was a particular event here.”

Mr Howard stressed that the incident has nothing to do with Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club. He also said it was important for the public to cooperate with police at a crime scene instead of trying to leave immediately afterwards.

“Officers have a duty to ensure that they obtain as much information as possible. There are times when people are inconvenienced.”

Mr Howard also confirmed that three people were arrested for obstruction in the wake of the stabbing.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the main police number on 205-0011 or Crimestoppers.
