The Storm and Bluebirds both won their respective games on Saturday night in basketball’s CellOne Elite City League.
The Storm handled the Trinity Sound Lions, despite missing captain Steven Simons due to a knee injury. And despite being a smaller team the Storm were able to use their speed, savvy, and experience to beat the Lions with a final score of 62-53.
The second game saw the league’s two top teams—the Fort Knox Panthers and the two-time defending champion Bluebirds—clash for the number one seed.
Both teams had the same record and knew that by the end only one team would hold sole possession of first place. The Bluebirds came to play and won 59-48 as they weathered an early rush from the Panthers and extended their record to 6-2 thanks in no small part to Chris Crumpler's 31 points.
The drive for the post-season continues this Wednesday night at Somersfield Academy at 6:30pm with the first game pitting the Trinity Sound Lions against the Fort Knox Panthers and the second featuring the Outback Outlaws against Robin Hood Warriors at 7:45pm.
