Emma Harvey continued her record-breaking spree on Sunday at the Michael Lohberg Invitational (MLI) swim meet, headlining another strong showing for Bermuda.
Harvey built on her brilliant performance on Saturday, taking gold and setting a new group record for the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:13.57. She also finished second in the 200m individual medley with a time of 2:39.95. Both of these times qualify for the Canadian Age Group Championships to be held in Montreal next month. She also took bronze in the 50m freestyle.
Coach Ben Smith was pleased with the entire team’s performance, saying in a press release: “The Bermuda team had an excellent day of swimming at the MLI as 9 swimmers advanced from their morning swims into 20 finals this afternoon.”
Jack Harvey and Keagan Woolley were dominant in their ten-and-under age group, finishing in the top three in several events. Harvey took gold in the 100m backstroke, silver in the 50m freestyle, and bronze in the 200m individual medley. Woolley took gold in the 50m freestyle and silver in the 100 backstroke, giving Bermuda two different one-two finishes in the ten-and-under age group.
Madelyn Moore and Ashley Irby both took gold for their respective age groups in the 50m freestyle. Moore also took second in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:10.14, an age group record. Aaron Rego won bronze in the 50m butterfly.
