A pervert who filmed up women’s skirts in a supermarket has been booted off the island, the Bermuda Sun can reveal.
Kubilay Fidan was sentenced to 30 days in jail on May 14 after admitting using a video camera concealed in a backpack to film women in Miles Supermarket in Hamilton.
Deputy Governor David Arkley said that Turkish national Fidan, 41, had been sent home on June 7 after he was released from Westgate.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner, who branded Fidan’s behaviour “repulsive and unacceptable”, also ordered that a deportation order be considered by Governor George Fergusson.
Mr Arkley said: “This is pretty rare — this is the first one I have dealt with where the Magistrate recommended it as part of the sentence.”
He added that other ex-prisoners had been deported — but usually foreign nationals caught with drugs, where the Minister for Public Safety had asked for a deportation order on the grounds that they are undesirable as residents.
Recommendation
The normal route on a Magistrate’s deportation recommendation is that Government House works with the Department of Immigration and that Attorney General’s Chambers, which draws up the deportation order.
Governor George Fergusson then considers the case and has the final say whether it is signed or not.
Unemployed father-of-two Fidan, who had been living with his work permit holder wife in Bermuda for 14 months, admitted committing the offences and asked for a further 12 offences to be taken into consideration.
The court heard that he had been spotted removing a bag from his shoulder, placing it on the ground and moved it towards a woman wearing a short skirt.
Suspicions
He picked up the bag and, a few minutes later, was spotted in the store’s coffee area doing the same to a woman wearing a short black dress then left the store.
Suspicions were aroused among security staff, who monitor the store through a CCTV network and police were called.
They caught Fidan in his car nearby examining the footage.
The court was told that similar videos were found on Fidan’s home computer after his Southampton home was searched following his arrest outside Miles Market on May 9.
Mr Warner also heard that police had traced the two women involved in the Miles incident who were “embarrassed and upset” when told what had happened.
