A 23-year-old woman was today sentenced to time spent in custody for attacking her step-father and two police officers.
Tenora Steede has been in custody since her first court appearance on January 7 for the incident.
The court heard at 6:15pm on January 4, Steede went her step-father, Sheldon Steede's, workplace and asked him to help her get some of her clothing from his home.
Mr Steede took the defendant in his car to his home to retrieve her clothing.
The court heard when he went to open the basement door for Steede to go in, she pulled out a weapon - a fireplace stake, from under her jacket and pushed it towards the victim’s face.
Mr Steede blocked the weapon but the defendant hit him in the centre of his collar bone, above his chest causing scratches.
A scuffle began between the two with Steede spitting on her step-father’s head.
Police were called to the home and took a report from the complainant.
At 6:30pm, police tried to talk to Steede and told her she would be arrested for assault and actual bodily harm.
When the officers tried to arrest her, Steede used a helmet to strike PC Wheatley in his face.
Two officers had to restrain her as she was taken to the Hamilton Police Station.
At the station, Steede refused to hand over her belongings and grabbed Police Sergeant Rock by the hair and began to pull.
She again had to be restrained by the officers.
In court in January, Steede admitted assaulting PC Wheatley and was sentenced to 30 days, but denied assaulting Mr Steede and PS Rock.
The crown offered no evidence on possession of an offensive weapon, the fire place stake.
In March, Steede pleaded guilty to the other two offenses.
Today, Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo sentenced Steede to time spent in custody on the two assault charges along with 12 months probation with recommendations laid out in the pre-sentencing reports.
Steede will also be required to complete a psychological assessment if deemed necessary and to stay awayfrom drugs and alcohol.
Mr Tokunbo added: “If you don’t comply or you commit another offence, you will be brought back and this order will be revoked.”
