Bermuda will be entering a men’s team in the NatWest Island Games for the first time.
The men’s team is the result of head coach Duke Nelligan developing the programme basically from scratch.
Coach Nelligan did announce the women’s team.
Included on the squad are: Tabytha Hofheins, 15; Gabby Vincent, 15; Sydney Mason, 15; Zantae Dill, 15; Danielle Wall, 13; Clara James, 13; Samantha Soares, 13 and Sadia Wilson, 13.
The eight gymnasts age 13-16 were selected based on their performance in several meets earlier this year, as well as the results of last weekend’s Island Games Trial. FIG Brevet Judge Carole Ide visited the island to score the girls on the eight routines that they will be competing in July.
The gymnasts will compete in three events in the NatWest Games: the team competition on Sunday, July 14, the FIG all-around competition on Tuesday, July 16, and the Set individual event competition on Thursday, July 18. The National Training Centre in St David’s will host the meets, with gymnasts coming in from Aland, Cayman, Jersey, Isle of Man, Ynys Mon, and Faroe.
The lineup for the competitions (5 participants in the team event, and six participants on each event in the FIG and Set) will be determined over the next set weeks of training.
