Around 100 people today attended a family community day organised by the Centre on Philanthropy.

Jennifer Pitcher, volunteer coordinator for the charity, said: “It went really well – we were happy that so many families came out and the sun shone as well.

“It was a great day, wonderful. Everyone was positive about it and the feedback was great.”

The free event gave families a chance to volunteer together on a range of charity projects.

People helped prepare and pack boxes of food as part of The Eliza Dolittle Society's food drive. The 35 boxes will later be distributed to needy families.

Variety

The event, which featured stands run by various community organisations, was held at the Botanical Gardens in Paget.

Youngsters helped paint waste bins for Keep Bermuda Beautiful.

The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute publicised its bid to eradicate the predatory alien lionfish from island waters by showing people how to make a paper lionfish using paper plates.

Others helped Bermuda Cancer and Health prepare collection buckets for the charity’s upcoming tag day.

And the Bermuda branch of Amnesty International collected signatures on letters for prisoners of conscience around the globe.

The event was MC’d by Hott 107.5’s Nikita Robinson .

Ms Pitcher said: “There was a lot going on with a total of seven different charities doing different things.”
