Folk singer/songwriter and gutiarist Val Sherwood will launched her new album Be Fabulous this month.

Produced by John Woolridge of Platinum Studios, Sherwood’s second album covers a range of genres from folk, rock, country and calypso and also takes in a few traditional ballads for her original fans.

The album includes a number of songs about Bermuda.

The Railway Trail Song focuses on the history of Bermuda’s railway from its origins in 1931 to its sale, 17 years on, to British Guyana.

The title track Be Fabulous focuses on the problem of stray cats on the island.

Sherwood is an established local musician who made her way up through the Bermuda Folk Club performing at outdoor concerts, private functions and at Chewstick.

The album includes classic ballads and love songs with a traditional Irish folk feel.

Collaboration

Her debut album Never Tell Them Why (2004) included contributions from a number of local musicians.

The album was produced by Michael Spencer-Ascott who would invite local musicians to play certain instruments on certain tracks.

Her debut album includes well known musicians including Max Maybury on flute, and Taylor Rankin on violin.

Other resident musicians contributed cello and mandolin tracks, and Michael Spencer-Ascott himself played a Spanish Guitar loaned by the late Milt Robinson for a track The Letter.

For her new album, she says she is exploring new styles and sounds.

The new album is on sale at The Music Box or by calling 236-0908. For more information about the artist visit her website on www.val.bm There are sample tunes from both of her albums available on the website.
