The windsurfing event for this year’s Island Games will kick off tonight with a giant party on a barge just off of the Spanish Point Boat Club.
Veterinarian and windsurfer Neil Burnie said that having the barge out in the water will vastly improve the spectator experience for the windsurfing fans, telling the Bermuda Sun: “This is the first time we’ve ever done something like this and we are hoping it will be revolutionary.”
The party will start at 6pm, with the barge supplied by Correia Construction.
People are encouraged to enjoy the bar, DJ, and some great windsurfing action throughout the week.
The fact that the racing will take place next to the barge will be a vast improvement to previous years, according to Burnie, who said: “The windsurfing event is going to be where you go with your boat to watch some windsurfing racing, and the racing is going to be right next to this barge because I’m fed up with this business of ‘where the hell is the sailing going on?’ ‘Oh it’s way over there’.
He added: “We plan to have a party running the entire week.”
