Seniors praised during Premier’s tea
Premier Craig Cannonier today entertained more than 1000 seniors to tea.
The event, to mark a series of tributes to the island’s older generation, was designed to praise their contribution to Bermuda.
Mr Cannonier said: “I am excited and encouraged about our future because of you – the grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles aunties, sisters, brothers, who through the years have gone ahead of us and taken on the challenges of life.”
He added: “Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, for giving us advice, for fighting for justice, for fighting for peace, for praising us when we were right and correcting us when we were wrong.
“The evidence of your many accomplishments over the years is why we can be optimistic about the future.”
Mr Cannonier, accompanied by wife Antoinette and Health and Seniors Minister Mrs Patricia Gordon-Pamplin, was speaking after the special tea was held at the main showring in the Botanical Gardens in Paget.
Mrs Cannonier also gave a “thank you” message to the audience and a gift of an umbrella for all the guests.
The Bermuda Regiment Band performed for the seniors, along with Angelis Hunt, Ming Mambo salsa dancers, the Bermuda All Stars Band and the H&H Gombeys.
