Roy-Allan Burch and Rebecca Heyliger will represent Bermuda at the FINA World Swimming Championships in Barcelona from July 19.
Burch qualified by virture of meeting the qualification time, while Heyliger has been granted a wild card on the back of her ‘significant improvements’.
Tim Petty, president of the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association, said in the press release: “Following the CCCAN championships, BASA is delighted to confirm that Roy Allan Burch, who has qualified by automatic time selection, will be representing Bermuda at the upcoming FINA World Swimming Championships in Barcelona.
“In line with the wildcard selection process detailed in the 2012-13 selection document, prepared by the Overseas Technical Committee and communicated to all athletes in September 2012, coupled with group meetings with all athletes to outline the wild card process, and after much discussion and evaluation; it has been decided that Rebecca Heyliger, having made significant improvements to personal best times during the course of 2012-13 and on a trajectory to move towards qualification based on time, has been selected to participate alongside Roy-Allan.
“No further wildcards have been granted by the committee under the wild card process as outlined and communicated.
“Please join us in congratulating our two swimmers and wishing them every success in the upcoming World Championships.
“Further congratulations should also go to all the team who competed at CCCAN - our junior swimmers competed at a very high standard, and our senior athletes performed well, albeit with a reduced level of competition as the region’s best athletes continued their World Championship preparation.”
