It was a case of ‘so near, yet so far’ for Peter Rans and his Overproof crew as they landed a 641lb Blue Marlin.
They had hoped the catch would claim top prize in the World Cup Blue Marlin Championship, which took place simultaneously across the globe yesterday.
But their catch came up just short of the crew from Blank Check who had hauled in a 668lb Marlin earlier in the day.
Scores of islanders including Ministers Shawn Crockwell and Wayne Scott descended on Albouy’s Point at around 5pm as news spread that Rans’s Bermudian boat might take the honours.
But it was not to be.
