The island has a host of talented riders, some as young as five, who have been tearing up the track at South Side.
And race organizers believe that many of them have the ability to go on to bigger and better things.
Dean Smith, of the Bermuda Motocross Club, said there had been a real focus on the youth programme in the past few years.
And it was paying dividends with riders like Deandre Smith Lightbourne, Jonah Smith, Jahir Mitchcell and Kenshae Wilson all looking like future champions.
He said the likes of Jahdae Trott, son of former champ Jonathon ‘Stork’ Trott who rides in the veteran's class, were also making an impression.
“We have a lot of talent on the way up. The younger riders are racing overseas more than what the old guys are.
“They are racing in major competitions in the States and they are getting valuable experience.”
He said the riders would typically turn up at a race after a day's travel to compete on a track they had never seen before and still manage to qualify.
But he said they were competing against the odds because of the lack of variety of tracks in Bermuda.
“Once we get the extra money we have been promised we'll be able to help give the more experienced riders different challenges.
“Hopefully we can change the track around and stop it from getting boring. Keep the sport alive.”[[In-content Ad]]
