A bad start left Toriano Wilson with a lot of ground to make in his first race as a professional motorcycle rider.

The 14-year-old had his bike in the wrong gear, which left him at the back of the pack when the flag dropped in the Red Bull Rookies Cup at Barber Motorsports Park in Atlanta.

Wilson made his strong challenge through the pack to earn valuable points. "Unfortunately, I started in third gear," he said.

He overcame that horrific start to move near the front of the pack before the first lap was finished, but Wilson wasn't able to overcome the advantage he had given the top riders.

Benny Solis, Jr., from North Hollywood, Calif., won the 11-lap race with Argentine rider Leandro Mercado finishing second.[[In-content Ad]]
