Letter to the editor / licence plates
Why shouldn't we customize our cars?
I got two tickets [one for each plate] last year for the issue regarding licence plates. I disagreed with the ticket so went to court for not paying the fines.
The judge threw out my tickets as he said it was not a criminal offence.
I have since put my specialized plates back on. My plates have bigger black numbers, a reflective background, a symbol to the left of the numbers and trim.
There is nothing about my plates that make them difficult to read.
I think that, yes, some of the plates out there go too far but others, like mine, are within the realm of sensible.
If TCD wishes to put a stop to the ridiculous ones, they should allow some form of specializing but put some limitations on it.
Other countries in the world allow people to customize their cars. If you think about it, Bermudians pay thousands of dollars for a car, simply because of the taxes and cost of getting them to the island [shipping].
Shouldn't we be able to make them look nice?!
