What now for Bermuda's team?

This tour had begun with much loftier ambitions than a ninth place finish. A top four place and qualification for the World Cup was the ultimate goal with a top six finish essential to guarantee continued one-day-international status and and the right to play regularly against teams like Holland and Kenya and occasionally against the big boys like West Indies and India.

Comprehensive defeats against UAE, Afghanistan, Holland and Kenya meant that Bermuda did not make the final eight, despite a big victory over Denmark.

Since exiting the competition they responded well with consecutive victories ensuring a top ten finish and a place in the ICC High Performance Programme, which guarantees them $350,000 in funding.

Though they are relegated to Division Two of the ICC World Cricket League they still gain automatic qualification to the World Cup qualifier in four years time.

They could also still be awarded a discretionary place in the ICC's global four-day cricket competition the Intercontinental Cup.

The top six in this tournament and two 'wildcard' teams will go into that competition. The wildcards will be determined by the ICC development committee based on past performances in the four-day game but Bermuda's victories in the past few days will at least have provided some evidence that they deserve the chance to compete regularly on the international stage.
