Somerset Cricket Club launches its community youth league this weekend with members of the senior team playing alongside youngsters in a 'fun, family orientated environment'.

The evening league, for Under-11s and Under-17s, begins on Friday and will conclude with finals night on August 14.

Teams of eight-players representing Sandys North, West and East will compete in a round-robin format with the top two facing off in the final. Under-11 games will be played at 6pm followed by Under-17 games at 8pm.

Players bat consecutively in pairs for four overs each in the 16-over format. A run is deducted for each out.

Each player must bowl at least one, but no more than three overs and the senior league players are requited to bowl and bat with their opposite hand.

Organiser Mark Trott said the league would be family orientated and feature fun castles and DJs.
