Watch Caisey gig, help dystrophy victim
When it came to raising money for himself, though, he was a little more hesitant. Seeing his plight, a friend asked the Caisey Family to help. Thus, Caisey Family Productions are presenting a show of music from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s to help raise money for a vehicle to help Wilson get around.
Wilson, 58, first felt the effects of muscular dystrophy at age 19. While playing football on BAA field, he felt unable to run properly, and had to ask his coach to take him out of the game.
The disease got progressively worse, but local doctors were unable to diagnose the cause. One doctor, Wilson says, told him it was all in his mind.
Frustrated, he flew to New Jersey where doctors ran tests on him, and broke the news that he had muscular dystrophy, something there is no cure for. “I was so relieved that I knew what it was,” Wilson said. “They told me that within a year I would be in a wheelchair – it took over ten years for me to stop walking.”
Now living at Summerhaven, Wilson wants to purchase a Nippi vehicle, a wheelchair–accessible vehicle similar to a motorbike. “God will find a way,” Wilson said.
The Caisey Family have joined forces to help him raise funds. This year’s show will feature music by the Caisey Family Band – Tony Dill, John Lee Lionel Edwards, Darius Richardson, Derek Simmons and Mike Payne along with vocalists Albert Caisey Sr., Albert Caisey Jr., Clinton Caisey, Taur Caisey, June Caisey, Phiemma Caisey, Bethann Raynor, Sia Spence, Wires and Desta ‘Zion’ Wilson.
“It’s a family affair,” June Caisey said. “On the night of the show we will be slammin’.”
The show takes place on February 12 at 4pm at City Hall Theatre. Tickets are available at Kit n Caboodle for $30, $15 for children under 10. For more information call 504-4872.[[In-content Ad]]
