Warwick wins three b-ball titles
CedarBridge were the heavy favourites to win the senior boys' title after going through the league undefeated.
It looked like CedarBridge would win the tournament as well as they led most of the way untl Warwick forced overtime. The Warwick boys dug deep and outscored CBA by six in overtime to win the title 47 to 41.
George Scully and Corey Boyce were chosen as co-MVPs for Warwick while Kyle Brangman was the MVP for CBA. Scott Smith won the Jill Simons Memorial Trophy for being the most outstanding player of the tournament.
Warwick coach Steve Simons, an alumni of the school, said: "It feels great to win the championship. The boys put in so much hard work. They showed up on time to every training session, they listened and you could just tell that they wanted to get better.
"After going through some rough patches in the regular season it was really a rewarding experience to watch them 'turn it up a notch' in the tournament. It was definitely my proudest moment as a coach, 100 per cent credit to the players, they deserve it!"
Simons added that the key to their season was everyone believing in themselves and in the team.
He said the players never complained. about all the hard work.
"The leadership of Scott Smith and Adam Correia was definitely a key to our season as was the emergence of Corey Boyce as the league's most athletic/energetic player.
"George Scully had an excellent tournament at point guard; he controlled the offense and didn't turn the ball over," Simons said.
"Javar Place also had an excellent season, he has a "never say die" attitude and controlled the rebounds - both defensively and offensively - for us all season.[[In-content Ad]]
