Warwick beats Prep for Boys' title
WEDNESDAY, MAY 9: Warwick Academy came away with the Primary Boys School championship with a 2-1 triumph over St George’s Prep.
That made head coach Stanton Lewis a double winner as he also coached Warwick’s girl’s team.
“I’m very excited about winning both. The Boys actually won the Primary Rugby Tournament, which was held at Shelly Bay so to come back here and do it all over again, It is a great honour.
“I’m very happy and excited for the boys because they’ve put the work in. They kept themselves in shape and came out here and done their best. That’s all I asked from them is to do their best.”
Lewis said the boys exhibit great teamwork in the classroom and they were able to transfer that out onto the rugby pitch.
“The relationship they have at school helps with a lot of our sporting things.”
He said captain Rory McKittrick Was solid in the field in leading the team in tries.
McKittrick said it felt good to win the Beyond Rugby Primary Boys Championship. He felt winning the second time around was “easier.”
“I didn’t think we were going to play as well as we played, but we actually got a couple of tries in.”
