MONDAY, MARCH 14: Dr. Barbara Ball died at the age of 86 last night.

The well-known trailblazer was the first female doctor to practice medicine in Bermuda and she worked with trade unions in the 1960s to improve workers rights.

A book about her life called Our Lady of Labour was written by Ottiwell Simmons, a former union president.

She died at the Sylvia Richardson care facility in St. George’s.
