WEDNESDAY, FEB. 8: Union chief Chris Furbert today denied threatening Premier Paula Cox with a withdrawal of support if she axed under-fire Minister Derrick Burgess.

Mr Furbert added that the BIU did not send a delegation to a PLP caucus meeting last week — although he and other members of the BIU who are also PLP members, did attend a party central committee meeting to support Mr Burgess, who is a former BIU president.

Mr Furbert said he had expressed personal support at the meeting for Transport Minister Mr Burgess remaining in the Cabinet and as Deputy Premier.

He added: “The BIU would not, and could not, direct its members on who they should vote for as this is a personal and private decision.”

And he emphasised that his “public and private support” for the Premier and the PLP remained “unwavering.”
