WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14: PLP veteran Neville Tyrrell is to fight Devonshire East at the next General Election in a bid to make it third time lucky, the party announced today.
Mr Tyrrell has contested the seat, held by OBA heavyweight Bob Richards, at the last two elections.
He said he had worked the constituency for around seven years and was looking forward to standing again.
Mr Tyrrell added: “There are some areas down there which are troubling in terms of the youth and their activity. That’s probably an area I’ll lean on in assisting in that area.”
Mr Tyrrrell, who has a background in community service and sport, said: “I don’t have a PhD, but I do have several levels of plain old common sense and a good work ethic.”
At the 200
7 election, Mr Tyrrell notched up a 48.26 share of the vote compared to Mr Richards’ 51.74, when he was running under the banner of the former UBP.
Premier Paula Cox said Mr Tyrrell is “a veteran” and “a person who comes eminently qualified, who truly defines what being a man of the people is.”
She added: “He is a thoroughly nice person and he’s shown he is prepared to give to the community.”
