Tynes Bay closes for one week
TUESDAY, JULY 6: The Ministry of Works and Engineering wishes to advise the public that effective Wednesday, July 7, 2010, the Tynes Bay Waste-to-Energy Facility will be closed for approximately one week due to an equipment malfunction.
The Tynes Bay Waste-to-Energy Facility is currently undergoing major refurbishments. The facility has been operating in a contingency mode in which the waste is shredded, baled and stored until the refurbishments are complete. The equipment used for the shredding and bailing operation has malfunctioned, a circumstance that has led to the temporary closure of the facility.
During this temporary closure, all waste that is normally sent to the Tynes Bay Waste-to-Energy Facility will be accepted at the Marsh Folly facility. The Marsh Folly facility will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday to Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Residential waste collection, including recyclables, will continue to be collected on their regular schedules from Thursday, July 8, 2010. Additionally, the Airport Waste Management Facility will continue to operate normally.
The Ministry of Works and Engineering apologizes for any inconvenience resulting from this temporary closure of the Tynes Bay Waste-to-Energy Facility.
