Transmission cable failure causes power outage
THURSDAY, APRIL 26: A power outage this morning briefly left 1,700 customers without electricity.
BELCO said at approximately 4:40am, two transmission cables out of the Prospect Substation failed, causing approximately 1,700 customers to lose power.
A BELCO spokesperson said: “Crews and BELCO Operations Centre immediately began work to re-route power to as many customers as possible.
By approximately 7:15am, two-thirds of customers had power restored and by approximately 7:50am, the majority of customers were restored with power being back-fed via other lines.”
The last group of customers without power was a cluster of approximately 400 in the Roberts Avenue.
Power was restored to all homes by 9:05am.
The cause of the cable faults is under investigation.
