Hope for Life
There should be more events like the Kappa Classic
FRIDAY, MAR. 30: While in Bermuda last week, I had the pleasure of watching the Kappa Classic for the first time.
Usually I am in Baltimore or travelling for business so I have missed it.
There are not enough words I could put on paper to express my deepest joy for what I experienced and appreciated.
I was sorry I did not get to stay for the whole weekend as I had to fly back to Baltimore on Saturday, but trust me I stayed as long as I could, which almost made me miss my flight, but it was well worth the rushing around.
I want to say to the Kappa Classic organization what a brilliant job they have done — not just for giving the young people a chance to display their talents on the field but for the environment you created for the families and friends off the field.
You truly have shown and understand the importance of having a great structured programme, especially in a sports climate that has been breaking down for many years due to lack of support and vision.
Your dedication in bringing families and community groups together over the years has been great and you should be proud of that accomplishment.
I went to the tournament with a business partner of mine from the US and as soon as we hit the field she went missing, never to be found until it was time to head out for the airport. She was so excited to see the young people and parents having the time of their lives that on the whole drive to the airport she admired how well the tournament was run and never wanted to leave.
As we all know that it is those little things we do that have great value. The attention to details that creates success and the vision that gives hope. It is those focuses when building programmes that will bring out the best of our athletes and young people.
In order to keep our young people encouraged, we have to put a great deal of time in providing structured programmes for them.
We have to make them feel like they are on the greatest stage in the world. We have to make them feel special and continue to recognize them, because we could only demand greatness if they trust us and if we show them that we really care.
If there is one thing we all know about our young people is that they will perform when they are on the stage — they will shine when they get the support and will move when they are given hope.
It is not our job to create the greatest environment for our young people, IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY to do so.
I just want say thank you once again to the Kappa organization for creating a great environment for the sporting community.
