The pitch still isn't approved for ODIs

It's great to see the National Centre is going to host a home game for the first time in several years.

But I'm afraid it looks like it's just going to be a one-game thing - the four-day match against Scotland.

It's nice that things are moving in the right direction, but it seems like too little too late. It's three years since we qualified and it looks like we are going to be using the same pitch as we had three years ago. The only difference seems to be that we've learned how to prepare it.

Nothing has changed, as far as I can tell, apart from the education on how to prepare it.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great news, but if we are using the same pitch then why haven't we been playing our four-day games at home for the last three years? Also, I don't want people to get their hopes up and think we'll be hosting one-day-internationals.

As I understand it, the standards are very different for ODIs - otherwise why wouldn't they just sanction it now? If a pitch can hold up for four days it wouldn't have a problem lasting one.

I'm hopeful that it will happen but I think we have to wait and see. The ICC has much stricter conditions for ODI pitches.

With the home game coming up and an one-day triangular series with Canada and the West Indies on the horizon people have been asking if I will be making myself available again. At the moment I have to say no. There's too many issues and commitments outside of cricket for me to commit the time to training.

I'd love to be selected for that one match in Bermuda, but you have to be part of the squad and training to be picked and I still don't have time to do that.

I've been travelling with Bermuda for four years now and I've made big sacrifices and lost money.

I have a son going to college and a young daughter. Every time I play for Bermuda I lose money and I can't afford to do that any more. It's not just me, there's a lot of good players that can't play for their country.

We don't look after our top players in Bermuda. :ook at Shoaib Akhtar. He failed a drug test and got banned for a year but his country still stood by him and he's starting to come back now in the IPL.[[In-content Ad]]
