The consequences of defeat

Failure to secure a top six place in the ICC World Cup Qualifer will have far reaching consequences for Bermuda's national cricket programme.

Firstly and most obviously they won't be going to the World Cup.

Secondly Bermuda loses its One Day International status and the right to play regularly against teams like Holland and Kenya and occasionally against the big boys like West Indies and India.

That also means they won't be afforded the opportunity to compete in tournaments like the ICC World Cup Qualifier.

Thirdly they are relegated from Division One of the ICC World Cricket League.

Now they play-off against Denmark, Oman and Uganda to decide if they will play in Division Two or Division Three.

Bermuda must beat Oman on Saturday in a 'semi-final' to secure a place in the top ten and Division Two.

If they lose that game they will be in Division Three alongside the likes of Argentina and Papa New Guinea.

They could still be awarded a discretionary place in the ICC's global four-day cricket competition the Intercontinental Cup.

The top six in this tournament and two 'wildcard' teams will go into that tournament. The wildcards will be determined by the ICC development committee based on past performances in the four day game.
