Students learn about world of reinsurance
FRIDAY, JULY 15: A group of high school students spent two weeks at financial services companies learning the ins and outs of the business.
The students from Berkeley Institute and CedarBridge Academy were given a first-hand look at the world on reinsurance, insurance, accounting and more.
The Math Springboard programme was put on by the Bermuda Education Network and concluded with the 2011 Insurance Game.
The students spent four days at an insurance company preparing for the game.
Organizer Becky Ausenda said: "This is the first attempt made in Bermuda about insurance that is at a suitable level for students aged 16.
"What we are trying to do here is give them a little bit of training about insurance, investments and accounting and then lead up to this underwriting simulation.
This is interesting because you can see they get really competitive.
Sponsors included Aon, Platinum Underwriters, Montpelier Re, Orbis, Jupiter, PWC, Endurance, Allied World Assurance, KPMG, BMA and more.
