The Bermuda Thanksgiving Basketball Classic
Stepping up to take on the world
What happens in Vegas, will be happening in Bermuda.
Two high school basketball teams from Nevada along with two from Ontario, Canada and one from San Diego, California will be playing in the inaugural Bermuda Thanksgiving Classic this weekend.
Three Bermuda teams will tip-off against their international opponents as prep basketball takes centre stage.
Organizer Chris Crumpler said the overseas schools have a lot of talent that our young boys can test themselves against.
Three Bermuda sides will line up against the international basketballers.
Crumpler said that Toronto’s Metro Prep and San Diego’s Francis Parker have lots of talent and could see several players play college basketball at Division 1 universities.
“Durango has some college-bound players and Chapparal has a really good point guard in Kevin Morgan.
“Georgetown District… has a great future.
“But they all need to watch out for Bermuda. Those guys may have something on paper, but I know our Bermuda teams are solid even though we have three teams and our talent is spread out, I know we’re going to make an impact.
“Don’t be shocked to see Bermuda in the Championship Round.
Steven Simons is coaching Bermuda’s Red squad.
“I have pretty high expectations from my team in particular because most of them have played in Vegas or in Florida the last couple of years so they have been exposed to this kind of talent level before.
“Among the three Bermuda teams, mine has the most experience at playing at this level so I expect them to compete well and put on a good show.”
