Records are made to be broken and with good conditions on Sunday, pony racing enthusiasts could see it happen two weeks in a row.

Catrina Sims on It's Speed Time broke their own track mark when they clocked 1:03 2/5ths in the 24th heat at the Vesey Street track.

The horse rider combo will be the favourite for the Annual Boxing Day Stakes races, which begins at noon on December 26.

Sims and It's Speed Time will be racing in the Aged Ponies category against the likes of Sure Grand, Stir It Up, GV Crystal Ball, Buffalo Soldier and Kick A Poo Brave.

Darico Clarke's Kick a Poo Brave got the better of It's Speed Time in the first heat, but Harness Pony and Driving Club president Nick DeCosta said it is Sims' race to lose.

"This is always one of our big race days," DeCosta said. "Overall it's going to be quite tight and exciting."

Overseas driver Lamar Yoder will drive Time After Time in that race.

He said the two-year-old stake races should be the tightest of the races with any of the seven ponies having a shot at winning it all. Both DeCosta and Colin Mello will double their holds by being in the sulky twice. DeCosta will be driving Abbey's Dream and Track Patrol while Mello will take the reins of Crown's Jewel and L & M's Black and Gold. Mello won twice last week with L & M's.

"There's no pressure really in doing back to back races, the real pressure come because it's a stakes race," DeCosta said.

Other entries include Bacardi Girl (Jason Lopes), Tuxedo's Lady (Catrina Sims) and Royal Winner (EJ Correiro).

Decosta said the Three-Year-Old Stakes Race has a solid favourite. "Cherokee's Superman has been the dominating horse so far."

Phillip Correia will be in the sulky for Cherokee's Superman. Challengers include Hedemon (Kentwoin Jones), GI Jane (Daric Seymour), Reel Time (Catrina Sims), Tux's Revenge (Andy Stoneham) and Brona's Mike (Nick DeCosta).

Brona's Mike and Hedemon both had wins last week.

DeCosta said the Four-Year-Old Stakes Races should be another tight one.

"There are two horses within 1/5th of the track record. Big Red Machine and Casmir Camotion both could win this and they are going to make this an exciting race."

Special Dream (Catrina Sims) and Bye Bye Byrd (Robert Lopes) are also involved and could pull off an upset.
