Run rate saves Rangers

Southampton Rangers will get a chance to defend their BELCO Cup title after being confirmed as the league's fourth place team.

There was some confusion as to whether Rangers or Somerset Cricket Club finished fourth. The Bermuda Cricket Board's official website showed Somerset in fourth place on Tuesday and only the top four teams qualify for the BELCO Cup.

The Cricket Board issued a press release yesterday: "The BCB confirms that Southampton Rangers placed fourth and Somerset Cricket Club placed fifth in the Premier Division this year. Both clubs were tied with 16 points and because both teams had won one game each the net run rate had to be used."

Rangers ended up with a + 0.576 run rate compared to Somerset's +0.249[[In-content Ad]]
