WEDNESDAY. JULY 11: The dust has yet to fully settle on Bermuda’s rugby championship and the team is already thinking about a three-peat.

Bermuda won the North America Caribbean Rugby Association Championship by beating Guyana convincingly 18-0 in front a very vocal home crowd.

Yesterday, the men’s national rugby team was on the step of City Hall to accept the trophy for being Caribbean Champions.

Thomas ‘Tank’ Greenslade told the Bermuda Sun said the team was pleased to retain the trophy.

“We didn’t just win it, we retained it and that’s even better.”

Greenslade said as Pete Dunlop gave the team a “good talk, but I’m more of a calm, go out there and hit someone hard person. He was making sure everyone was focused to do what they had to do.

Greenslade it was better to win on home soil.

“Tours are great but when you do it in front of your home crowd — wives, girlfriends — they get to actually see us play. They can come down and watch and we get to perform in front of our people.

“Plus it’s better to get people cheering for us as opposed to a crowd of people booing us.”

Greenslade said it is going to take commitment from the team to defend the title again.

“There’s a lot of time off work and a lot of time training.”

He thanked employers for giving them the time off to train and play.
