Riley gets $20k basketball scholarship

Yusef Te’Jour Riley isn’t a household name in Bermuda, but the young basketball player is a rising star who is sure to stamp his signature on the island’s sports scene in the years to come.

Riley received the Digicel Scholarship for Sport. The 17-year-old basketball star has been awarded the $20,000 scholarship to continue his studies at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. 

Residents had an opportunity to see his talent in the First Annual Bermuda Thanksgiving Classic Basketball Tournament in November last year. Riley played basketball for Toronto’s Metropolitan Preparatory Academy in the tournament.

He was also a member of Bermuda’s Under-18 national basketball team.

Riley aspires to be a lawyer and will pursue a double major in Political Science and English at the prestigious university while competing in basketball. 

Extraordinary

He received the Political Science Award when he graduated with honours from the Metro Prep this spring. 

Riley said: “I am looking forward to furthering my skills and putting Bermuda on the map.  I am totally indebted to Digicel for how they have benefitted me and my family with this scholarship.”
