Two Canadian pro-riders and a couple of American wonder-kids will line up alongside the best of Bermuda for the festive 'Champion of Champions' motocross series.

The two-day series, which begins on Boxing Day and concludes on New Year's Day, is the most popular day of the year for the sport in Bermuda, regularly attracting over 1,000 fans.

And president Otis Ingham predicted that with some of the fastest guest riders that had ever visited the island on show, this year's festive crowd would top 3,000.

Michael Young, the eight-year-old national champion and fastest 50cc rider in America, and Cooper Webb, 11, the fastest in the States in the 65cc class, will take their prodigious talent to the Bermuda track, racing against the best young riders on the island like Jyire Smith and Kenshae Wilson.

And in the 125cc expert class Canadian pro riders Kyle Thompson and Peter Raymer will be flown in to provide stiff competition for the Bermuda riders and a few extra thrills for the crowd.

Ingham said this was the biggest event of the year for Bermuda motocross and the riders had been spending some time at the track in a bid to give it their best showing.

"The guys who would be in contention to give the pros a run for their money are Aaron Cannonier and Zico Majors.

"They've been training really hard. I was watching them at the last practice session and they look like they could stick with the pace."

He said it would be much harder for the youngsters to make an impression against the two fastest kids in the States.

"We're looking for someone to step up to the plate and give them a run for their money. I wouldn't expect anyone to beat them but you never know, someone might just get out of the right side of bed."

There will be three races in each class on both Boxing Day and New Year's Day. The points from the series will be carried over with the winner decided at the end of racing on January 1.

Racing will take place on Boxing Day and New Year's Day at noon at Southside. Entrance $7 adults, $4 children.[[In-content Ad]]
