No-nonsense boxing coach Chucky Renaud has sent a message to his rivals ahead of next week's 'Fists of Fury: Ultimate Fighter's Championships' - 'you can run, but you can't hide'.

The Controversy Gym boss, living up to the name, said the island's two rival gyms - Forty Rego's and Police Gym - were afraid to put their boxers in the ring with his fighters.

"Sooner or later they are going to have to fight somebody from my gym," he said.

Stoking up the hype ahead of the event on Saturday, September 13 at Berkeley, Renaud added: "I've always said 'let the record show' and after Saturday night the record will show that we're number one.

"If not we'll shake their hands and we'll have a rematch as soon as possible."

Controversy's stable of boxers has been depleted due to top fighters like Tom Healy and Mark Dunlop being off the island or unavailable.

But Renaud said he was still confident of putting his guys - Reece Simpson, Jashun Thomas and Lubin Sousa - up against anyone in their weight class.

"We want to see them in the ring. We don't run from nobody. Normally we have 10 or 12 guys, this time we only have three. But they're prepared to fight twice if they have to.

"Bring it on, let's have a go, as always - let the record show."

He said Forty Rego's Gym had a history of backing out of bouts with his fighters.

"They are always running from us but they are going to have to get in the ring with us sometime."

He added that he wanted to pit one of his fighters against up and coming Police Gym prospect Nicky Bascome.

"Quinton Mallory's got this boy Bascome under his wing. He went down to the islands and won a bronze medal. Well done to him. But he hasn't fought anybody from my gym yet.

"He's a great fighter but I have great fighters to. They're prepared to take on anybody so let's have a go.

Event promoter Reuben Bean, of Jiketsu Martial Productions, said the rivalry between the island's three gyms and the battle for bragging rights was a big part of the night.

"Who really has the roughest, toughest and most talented fighters on the island?

"Chucky would say, "let the record speak for itself - we fret no one and we produce the baddest fighters hands down.

"Police gym would say, 'we are technically sound and prepared for any challenge that comes our way.'

"Rego would say, 'I have trained with the best - my record proves this. So if I've trained with the best I can only deliver the best.'

"Talk is cheap! The true reality will manifest in the preparatory stages, during the fight and after the battle - only then will the indisputable truth be revealed."

As well as the bouts, the fighters will be judged on Mitt Work demonstrations.[[In-content Ad]]WHEN? Saturday, September 13, from 8pm to 12am
