Putting the 'coed' back into softball
FRIDAY, JULY 1: The Summer Softball League is making a move to get more women involved in the sport.
The SSL will be having a 5 and 5 coed league — five men and five women as well as its traditional eight men, two women coed league. Tracy Bean, president of the SSL, told its members at Wednesday night’s AGM that there was some interest in having a ‘true coed league’ with two teams expressing interest in the new format before the AGM. Two teams at the AGM expressed interest in the 5 and 5 league with Rosa’s Banditos committing to it.
Bean said players would be allowed to sign up for teams in both the 5 and 5 league and the traditional 8 and 2 league.
Players will also be allowed to play in the Men’s League and Women’s League, giving them up to three teams they could play for.
League registration forms may be submitted and gathered from Soundstage, which is located on the second floor of the Washington Mall.
