FRIDAY, JAN. 13: On Saturday 14th January 2012, the George Duckett Memorial Rugby Game will be played at Police Field, Prospect, Devonshire. This the 38th time the trophy will be played for! The schedule of games is as follows:

  • 1:00pm – Men’s Second Team
  • 2:15pm – Women’s First Team
  • 3:00pm – Men’s First Team (George Duckett Memorial)

George Duckett was a former Commissioner of Police who was assassinated in 1972. He was a popular Commissioner and a larger than life man at 6’5” tall, from Lancaster. He was also an ardent rugby fan.

In 1973, the Police Rugby Section commenced an annual memorial game which is at present the longest running memorial game in Bermuda. Former colleagues and ‘Faded Blues’ (former police rugby players) continue to show their respect by attending this police sporting tradition.

Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Carlton Adams will be presenting the trophy to the winning side. In addition, there will be refreshments provided afterwards in the Police Recreation Club main hall. Everyone is invited to attend!
