Perozzi to face Harris in June fight at Berkeley
Will use bout to help prepare for match against Asa Sandell in Sweden
Perozzi will take on Kimberly Harris at the Berkeley Institute Gym on June 23 on the same night as the San Shou Showdown - a night of Chinese freestyle fighting.
Her North American Boxing Council World Middlewieght title will not be on the line in the bout with brawler Harris, which the champ is treating as a tune-up match ahead of her showdown with Swedish sensation Asa Sandell in Europe in September.
The fight was arranged at the last minute after a chance meeting between Perozzi and martial arts expert and fight promoter Reuben Bean at the May 24 prize giving ceremony.
But Perozzi insists she will be ready. "I feel I'm in good shape and if I train hard for the next few weeks I should be okay.
"I know she likes to just stand there and fight, she's a real tough brawler. I've been in training and I only have to lose about eight or nine pounds, which is not too bad.
"It's great to have a fight after being inactive for so long. I've been waiting for this for a while. I'm so ready mentally and physically and it is perfect timing ahead of the fight in Sweden.
"I'm viewing it mainly as a warm-up for the Sandell fight. That's the one where the title is on the line. She's number three in the world and has fought all the top boxers (including Laila Ali).
"Kim's no pushover. She's had more fights than me but I feel if I prepare properly I should beat her. I'm not going to get drawn into a brawl, because she likes to fight"
Perozzi will be sparring with the San Shou fighters as well as at the Police Gym and Controversy Gym to prepare for the bout.
She said the event on June 23 promised to be one of the most exciting held in Bermuda to date.
"Between my fight and from what I saw of the San Shou guys at the Fight Fest in November, this could be the best event so far.
"It's great training with people who really want to fight and are really serious about their training. It helps keep me motivated. I hope the event goes well so they can continue to organize this kind of stuff."[[In-content Ad]]
