Patrick to coach at LSU
FRIDAY, JUNE 29: David Patrick is returning to the college coaching ranks after serving as a scout for the Houston Rockets.
Patrick who was Bermuda’s first professional basketball player, will be an assistant coach at Louisiana State University.
LSU head coach Johnny Jones said: “We are definitely excited about the addition of David Patrick to our staff. He will not only be able to help us with game planning and practice preparation, but we look forward to him helping to raise our level of recruiting at LSU, both regionally and nationally.
“With his background in both Division I and professional basketball, he brings a level of experience to our programme that will help us move forward.”
Patrick played professionally for the Canberra Cannons in Australia’s National Basketball League from 1999-01.
He also played in England and was the assistant coach for the Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team. While in England, he earned second team All-league honours.
He also played one season in Spain.
He also served as a volunteer coach for Nicholls State for the 2005-2006 season.
Patrick is the only Bermudian to have played in the Final Four when he was a member of Syracuse team that finished as national runner-up in 1996.
After that season he transferred to Louisiana-Layfayette where he played his final three collegiate seasons.
In 1994 he led Chapel Trafton High School to the Louisiana State quarterfinals and was the Louisiana Player of the Year.
