Passion can get the best of all of us
Adebayor from Man City was another one who acted out during the battle. After he scored his goal he ran down the length of the field to the crowd. It just shows when the passion and the adrenaline get going anything could happen.
Sports just brings that out because, if you really love your sport, you are playing with a lot of intensity and sometimes things just boil over.
In Bermuda we have to learn from that - that happens to even the best in the world. It doesn't make it right, but they get their fine and get suspended for one or two games and they move on. We could really learn a lesson in how that's handled at a professional level.
In Bermuda when someone's passion gets the better of them, we tend to punish them so badly they either give up on the sport or the ban is so lengthy that they can't play.
It's unfortunate that Social Club has had to withdraw from the Twenty20. I know that everybody wants to play the Twenty20, but going from the league champions to having to pull out of the league doesn't say much for cricket. They do have to be commended for coming forward and being honest in saying that they can't field a team. It's just an inconvenience for those clubs who do show up and not have their opponent show up. There were a couple weeks in which they couldn't field a team so its better that they say that can't field a team whether that be through suspensions, travelling and injuries. What that does show is most squads in Bermuda don't have a lot of depth to sustain a lot of people missing. It's unfortunate, but they're a good enough team to vie for the title if they had their full squad. Hopefully next year they'll get things together and start a fresh again.
Time to get serious
For us that means we don't have a game on Saturday because we won't play them now so that means we're through to the semi-finals next weekend. We would have liked to have played so we could work on getting the right combination ahead of the semi-finals. Unfortunately we'll have to find other ways to figure that out.
We do play Police on Sunday and they are currently second in the league. Even if we lose to them, our run rate is so good we've basically won our group. Police has a good Twenty20 unit. They have a lot of good players, but in 50 overs they are still competing, but they have a little older team so they get tired and other teams can pick up singles against them. Twenty20 is really equipped for them because they have quality batting and bowling. This will be a very good game for us leading up to the semi-final next week. We're out to win this match. They have a lot to play for because PHC is right behind them.
We haven't been challenged yet in the Twenty20 so the guys have had a lot of fun in those games, but this week there isn't going to be any joking around. We're going to pick our team towards who we are going to play next week. We're going to be looking to see what bowlers we're going to use in various situations.
This is the last chance we have before going into the semi-finals. We've played our youngsters and given everybody a run out but this week we'll be playing our best.
It's great that Lindo's has come on board to sponsor the tournament. BELCO's been on board for a long time to invest money in cricket and now Lindo's has come on to sponsor the Twenty20. It will be a big final underneath the lights and a TV screens so it shows that cricket is going in the right direction. This is welcome news for all cricket fans.[[In-content Ad]]
