Parking restrictions as new dock entrance opens
WEDNESDAY, JULY 18: The City of Hamilton today announced that parking restrictions have been instituted on Front Street between Court and King Streets. Making the announcement was Chief Operating Officer and Secretary for the City of Hamilton, Mr. Edward Benevides.
Mr. Benevides stated, “As a result of the implementation of traffic lights at the intersection of Court and Front Streets, parking changes have to be instituted to ensure that traffic continues to flow freely in the area, specifically during rush hour. Six parking spaces have been removed from the north side of Front Street between Court and King Streets. As of today, there is no parking in this area from 8:00am to 10:00am and between 4:00pm and 6:00pm Monday to Saturday.
“From Monday, July 23, 2012, the dock entrance opposite Court Street will become operational. This means tractor trailers and trucks entering and leaving the docks will do so through the new entrance. The other change which was implemented a few months ago, to ensure the public’s safety, is the bus stop which was located outside of Customs House has been removed.”
Mr. Benevides continued, “The City of Hamilton is aware of the concerns expressed by the general public. These traffic and parking modifications are necessary to ensure this busy intersection allows for full line of sight of the intersection by motorists and ensures the safety of pedestrians.”
“In the coming weeks, we will continue to monitor the traffic flow at this intersection and may make modifications, as needed. I urge the public, pedestrians and motorists, to continue to use extreme caution in this area. If anyone has questions, I encourage them to call City Hall at 292 1234,” Mr. Benevides concluded.
