FRIDAY, MAY 4: Malcolm Outerbridge will be remembered on the rugby field Sunday afternoon.
Outerbridge was murdered last October along the Railway trail. Another teenager stands charged in his murder.
On Sunday afternoon on the Northern playing fields at the National Sports Centre, Malcolm K. Outerbridge, Jr. Memorial Trophy will be presented to the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the Beyond Rugby Bermuda School Championship.
Beyond Rugby organizer and former pro wrestler John Layfield told the Bermuda Sun: “Malcolm was killed the very week we started our programme. His parents are going to present the MVP award for the best high school rugby player on the island. That’s going to be a big deal for us.
“One of the reasons we started this league was to give kids options so things like this don’t happen.”
The Fairmont Southampton and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will provide a $10,000 grant to Beyond Rugby to support the organization’s programmes targeting at-risk youth.
The schools championship will start at 1pm as primary, middle and secondary schools compete for the honour of Bermuda champion.
