SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1: Flights into Bermuda were cancelled today due to the threat of Hurricane Ophelia.

American Airlines flights from Miami and New York have been cancelled.

Delta has also cancelled its two Atlanta flights DL657 AND DL656.

The Department of Tourism has also called off its Bermuda Nights event tonight due to the incoming weather.

The Department of Parks Lifeguard Service has erected red, high surf warning signs along South Shore.

The Lifeguard Service expects to resume normal operating hours tomorrow.

Hurricane Ophelia is expected to pass 115 nautical miles to Bermuda's east this evening.

According to the Bermuda Weather Service the hurricane will reach its closest point to the island at 8pm.

Ophelia is expected to bring with it high winds and rain as it brushes past the island.

At 12pm today forecasters said that Ophelia was a "potential" threat to Bermuda.[[In-content Ad]]
