Onions will battle Limeys
This traditional game has been played since the 1970s and was once part of a larger annual competition between teams of Bermudians (Onions) and teams from the U.K. (Limeys) playing a number of different sports on the same day for an overall trophy.
The full competition vanished long ago but the rugby matches continue on. Several years ago Bermuda rugby introduced junior matches to this competition and this year the plan is to have U10, U12, U14 and U16 matches.
These will be followed by ladies and men's matches. Matches will take place at NSC starting at 10:30am for Under-10s and finishing up at 3pm with the men's game.
U6 and U8 will train as usual at Saltus, Woodlands Road.
Also upcoming, an U14 Select team will play two matches against Yardley (a visiting English school) on Sunday, April 11 and Saturday, April 17. The first match will be played at Somersfield and the second will be at Warwick Academy. Kick off times are still to be determined, but will be around 11am /12 noon for each match.
The 2010 Conyers Cup Junior Tournament has been scheduled for the weekend of May 1 and 2, 2010 in the Cayman Islands.
Plans are to take one team from each of the following age groups: Under 10, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16. Teams will play on both the Saturday and Sunday.
Last year when Bermuda very successfully hosted the tournament, it was possible to include all players.
Teams will leave on a chartered airplane around 5pm on April 29 and return May 3 around 7pm.
There will be a full men's international test match between Bermuda and Cayman on Sunday, May 2, with valuable world ranking points at stake.
There will be some extra seats on the charter plane, so anyone with an interest in travelling to Cayman for those particular dates can contact Mike Montgomery at [email protected].
