One in seven will be affected by boundary changes
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 26: Members of Parliament are to debate the Constituency Boundaries Commission for Bermuda and its Report today.
Speaking in the House of Assembly this morning, Premier Paula Cox said the procedures and preparing for the new Parliamentary Register would also be debated.
There is also a proposed public awareness campaign by the Parliamentary Registry to inform the public of the changes.
Ms Cox said: “Mr. Speaker, the report contained information compiled by the Parliamentary Registry regarding the resulting changes in voters, by the number of voters lost by the old constituency, number of voters gained by the new constituency and a table indicating how many voters lost by one constituency, old to another, new.
“The total number of qualified electors was 45,992 and there was a 14.3 per cent change, i.e. 6,594 electors, or 14.3 per cent of the electorate, will be affected by the constituency changes.”
She added: “The Parliamentary Registry will explain and inform the public about the contents and effect of the 2009/2010 Constituency Boundaries Report.
“The campaign will ensure that there was no confusion about the changes to the constituency boundaries before the next general election.”
