WEDNESDAY, DEC. 15: UBP election hopeful Devrae Noel-Simmons sent a message to voters from his hospital bed as polling continued in the Warwick by-election today.

Mr. Noel-Simmons was absent from the polls at St Mary’s Church today after doctors instructed him to rest following an operation to remove his appendix last night.

UBP figures, including leader Kim Swan, have been canvassing on his behalf.

The former bodybuilder, who is recovering on the Perry Ward at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after being admitted with severe abdominal pains in the early hours on Tuesday, put out a brief press release this afternoon to encourage voters to stick with him.

"Keep voting. Vote for change. Vote Devrae Noel-Simmons. Bermuda needs to send strong people to Parliament, people who will stay in touch with them, speak for them and stand up for them. That's what I’m about, that's what I will do. That's my promise.

“This is also your opportunity to send a strong message to Government that you want them to do a better job not just for Warwick but for Bermuda."

PLP candidate Marc Bean and BDA candidate Sylvan Richards were at the polling station today greeting people as they came to cast their vote.

Polls close at 8pm and a result is expected around 10pm.
